The CCJHA follows Hockey Canada's Playing Rules with the addition of the following:
RULES :
- NO INTENTIONAL CONTACT. Any intentional contact with another player will result in a penalty.
- Minor penalties are 3 minutes running time; major penalties are 7 minutes running time; misconducts are 13 minutes running time.
- A player’s third penalty in a game will result in an automatic game ejection, followed by a board review to determine whether further disciplinary action is required.
- Any penalties involving physical/unsportsmanlike contact (eg. slashing, boarding, body checking, roughing, etc.) received in the last 2 minutes of a game will be reviewed and subject to suspension.
- Major penalties will result in an automatic game ejection, plus an extra game suspension, and a review.
- Major penalties such as hitting from behind, boarding, head contact (with intent to injure) may - at the discretion of the referee and following a Board review - carry a longer suspension.
- Suspensions carry over to the playoffs and the following season.
- Players serving a suspension are not eligible to be called up or to participate in any tournament or Allstar games.
- Repeated suspensions may cause a player to be expelled from the league.
- All accumulated penalty minutes will be monitored by the Board and, if deemed excessive, will result in a verbal warning to the coach and player, followed by suspension of the player should the number of accumulated minutes be too high.
- Players using abusive language or showing unsportsmanlike behaviour (eg. slamming sticks, arguing calls, slamming doors, etc.) will be assessed a minor penalty. Such penalties will be monitored by the Board and repeat offenders will be suspended.
- Ejected or suspended players may not stay on the bench or assist in coaching the game.
- Any players who do not adhere to the CCJHA Players Code of Conduct will face disciplinary action by the Board, up to and including expulsion from the league.
- It is the Division Rep’s responsibility to notify both the player and the coach of a suspension before the player’s next scheduled game.
- It is the responsibility of the coach to ensure non-eligible players do not play.
REGULATIONS :
- Regular season games and exhibition games are 3 periods of 20 minutes running time.
- Playoff games are 3 periods of 20 minutes running time, with a 3-player shootout, if necessary, to determine a winner.
- No-touch icing.
- Anytime a puck strikes a goalie’s helmet, it is deemed a “dead puck”, meaning play stops and if a goal results, it is ruled a “no goal”.
- Scorekeepers may only stop the clock if signalled by the referees.
- The last 3 minutes will be stop time if the score is within 2 goals (eg. if the score is 3 - 0, there will be no stop time; if the score is 3 - 1, there will be stop time).
- Only captain (C) or assistant captain (A) players are to address the referees.
- Both teams have one 1-minute time out available to them per game.
- Although call-ups are encouraged if a team has less than 10 available players, they must be made through the Division Rep.
- Any non-suspended player is eligible to be called up to a higher division. Only goalies are eligible to substitute for other goalies in their division.
- Players can participate freely in different sports or in different leagues; however, once registered in the CCJHA league, attendance at CCJHA games and practices must be their priority.
- Any player can be traded to another team if it is deemed to benefit the player, the teams, and/or division parity.
- Every player must wear the team awarded jersey and matching socks for all games.
- Players must give fair notice to their coaches if they are unable to attend games or practices.
